There was a very small amount of blood after the needle was inserted into my tongue, but not enough to cause any concern. The place on the tongue where the Barbell goes through is mainly muscle.
All through the rest of day I could feel the Piercing and knew it was there
but did not have pain.....
Later on, around 6.00pm my tongue was swollen, and talking was
tiring and my tongue was getting a little sore now.....
however two Solpadeine (pain killers) disolved in a glass of water
eased the pain.
I did not think about eating as I thought food would pull on the barbell and cause me a lot of pain, however my wife and I went to the cinema about two hours after my piercing was done and I did manage to
eat popcorn albeit slowly.
I was advised to rinse my mouth with Oral-B mouth wash regularly but not to use a mouth wash such as Listerine as this is too strong and kills off bacteria needed in the healing process.
The swelling remained for about four days (don't get your tongue pierced if you need to do a lot of talking in your work, unless you have at least a week off) I have been told that the length of time an individuals tongue is swolen for differs from person to person.
The swelling started to go down around day 5 and my Tongue was much better... eating was also getting back to normal(ish) I was still a little nervous of food pulling on the barbell even after the swelling had disappeared completely.
My new piercing was noticable to me for about 2 months after getting it done, I did get the urge a few times to remove it but I didnt and after about 8 weeks it seemed quite natural to have it and it was not noticable anymore.
The Barbell shown in these pictures is a long bar which is used when getting your tongue pierced. It is long so as to accomodate the swelling in the tongue which swells to almost twice its normal size.
After about 2 weeks or there abouts you can if desired go back and have the large barbell exchanged for a shorter one but I liked the long one so decided to keep it, it's better for shocking people. Half the time I dont even know its there. It does not get in the way when eating, Im now eating everything again and love my piercing and would recommend that anybody thinking of having it done should go ahead and get it done. I went on about it so much that two weeks after I had mine done my wife got hers done too.
At the time of this update I now have my Tongue pierced 2 years and 2 months, It is not noticeable unless somebody is starring right into your gob when you speak, It has rarely ever been noticed in my workplace. I even know a girl who works in a bank who also had hers done and nobody ever notices it.
To be honest I originally wanted to get mine done as sort of a "... would I have the balls to get that done..." sort of a personal test if you like, I don't regret getting it done and have no plans to remove it, by the way I was not a teenager following a fad or fashion when I had my tongue pierced, I was 29 years old !!!
