Kawasaki ZR-7 ZR-750F




This is the Kawasaki ZR-7 which I bougfht today, Friday September 3rd 1999... what a ride... Here follows some info on the bike, my thoughts and comments will follow in time.
The ZR-7 comes without any fairing at all. It's powered by an inline, air-cooled, four-cylinder 738cc engine that has been tuned for an emphasis on mid-range power.

The double-cradle steel frame has been designed specifically for the ZR-7 and, like the ZRX-1100, the riding position is semi-upright. The fuel tank is huge: 5.8 gallons huge. Nice convenience features include a centerstand and integrated tabs on the rear subframe that provide for a mounting system for accessory saddlebags.

The modern, two-piston caliper, 300 mm dual front and 240 mm single rear disc brakes look powerful, and well they should be. The spec sheet states that the ZR-7 weighs 445-pounds dry. Add a battery and six gallons of gas and you're looking at an almost 500-pound naked sportbike.

The transmission is five-speed rather than six-speed, so look at this bike as a grunt-monster rather than a potential track weapon. Still, knowing Kawasaki, the ZR-7 should be quick as silver stoplight to stoplight.

So far I've only clocked up about 400 miles (at the time of typing this September 14th 1999) but allready even typing this has me wanting to go for a blast now... I have to keep the RPM's at 4,000 (MAX) for the first 500 miles then 6,000 for the next 500 so the engine can be broken in gently, ah well... The guy in the Bike shop told me that the manual says 4000 RPM, but 5,000 RPM was safe! At 3,000 RPM the speed is 45mph while on the motorway 5,000 RPM is equal to 70 mph, So not too bad, I can't wait 'till she's broken in and I can have a blast...

My poor 17 year old Yamaha XJ-750 is still alive, I have intentions of pulling her engine apart during the winter and doing some work on her and maybe even get her back on the road again... even for leisurely Sunday drives.
